Veteran Broadcaster Babs Daramola Launches ‘The Naija Broadcastar’, A Platform to Spotlight Nigeria’s Broadcast Industry Broadcast.
Nigeria currently boasts over 740 operational broadcasting stations, including more than 100 television stations and over 500 radio stations, spanning both public and private ownership. In addition to these are an estimated 200 to 300 online radio and TV platforms, reflecting the rapid digital migration of the industry. Altogether, the nation is believed to have over 25,000 broadcast professionals, with about 1,500 of them working in the expanding online broadcast space, a testament to how vibrant and evolving Nigeria’s broadcast landscape has become.
Imagine a city with about 25,000 residents. A city bustling with energy, talent, and purpose. Streets alive with stories, ideas, and conversations. Town halls where decisions are debated, voices are heard, and communities thrive.
Now, picture that city differently: its residents are Nigeria’s broadcast practitioners: journalists, presenters, producers, editors, sound engineers, camera operators, and every professional who keeps the airwaves alive. That’s the scale of our industry today: 25,000 strong, yet each often navigating their craft in isolation.
For too long, the stories behind the storytellers have gone untold. Each practitioner shaping Nigeria’s media landscape has a journey, a perspective, a voice; and together, they form a community as large and dynamic as any city. A community bustling with people, all working in harmony to entertain, inform and educate the nation . Yet for such a populous “city”, the industry still lacks a unified, industry-based voice. The Naija Broadcastar is here to change that. This is the platform that shines a light on Nigeria’s broadcast practitioners.
We are launching a platform dedicated to the life and style of Nigeria’s broadcasters. A space where we tell the stories, challenges, triumphs, and voices of these extraordinary storytellers, a rare breed of professionals whose work defines how a nation hears itself.
The Naija Broadcastar, a lifestyle and media blog founded by veteran journalist Babs Daramola, officially debuts this week, promising an insider’s look into the lives, passions, and journeys of the nation’s broadcasters.
Daramola, whose nearly four-decade career spans more than ten major radio and television media outfits, has built a reputation as a seasoned broadcaster and trainer. With The Naija Broadcastar, he turns his attention to a space rarely explored: the human stories behind the voices and faces Nigerians have trusted and admired for years.

“Every great story begins with a voice,” Daramola writes in the blog’s launch post. “For decades, Nigerian broadcasters have told the nation’s stories, informing, inspiring, and entertaining millions. Yet behind those microphones and cameras lie deeply human stories of passion, perseverance, and purpose that too often remain untold. That’s why The Naija Broadcastar is here.”
The platform aims to capture the full spectrum of broadcast life. From the golden microphones of radio studios to the dazzling screens of television sets, featuring both emerging talents and industry veterans. It promises a behind-the-scenes look at mentorship, mastery, struggles, and triumphs that define the nation’s broadcast landscape.
The Naija Broadcastar is now live on NaijaBroadcastar.com, inviting readers to explore the stories behind the storytellers shaping Nigeria’s airwaves.
If you’re a broadcaster, or even just interested in the world of broadcasting, welcome to our “city”, where we tell the stories behind the storytellers. Welcome to The Naija Broadcastar.
